THE DEAD SEA

HISTORY OF THE DEAD SEA

The Dead Sea history is older than man himself. Jericho, which is considered to be the oldest city in the world, is found on the bank of the Dead Sea. Even at the old times, many city's inhabitants made their livelihood from the Dead Sea beauty products. In fact, the Bible tells us that the Queen Sheba was presented with the Dead Sea salts from King Solomon upon her visit to the Holy Land. Later on, the Empress Cleopatra, who made extensive use of Dead Sea formulations in her beauty regimen, urged Marc Anthony to conquer the Dead Sea in his Judean campaign so that she would be guaranteed bountiful supply of necessary Dead Sea minerals.

The remains of Roman spas found in the region provide evidence that the Dead Sea area has been known for its therapeutic advantages from ancient times.

The lake(Dead Sea) being at the lowest point means that water does not drain from this lake. Daily 7 million tons of water evaporate but the minerals remain, causing the salt content to increase. The result is an inland lake containing a wealth of minerals with amazing therapeutic powers.

It is rich in minerals such as magnesium chloride, potassium chloride and calcium chloride which are valuable in promoting healthy skin cells. The water has a 32% mineral content compared to the 3% salt content of the world’s oceans, which allows people to float on it without effort.

GEOGRAPHY OF THE DEAD SEA

The unique geographical location of the Dead Sea, the concentration of salts in it’s waters and the unique content of its waters and salts all contribute to the Dead Sea’s unique medicinal properties that have been known to man for thousands of years with proven therapeutic properties as well as cosmetic benefits for your skin , such as restoring it’s youthful, healthy and radiant glow.

The Dead Sea region has been a center of attraction, containing the essence of vitality health & beauty, whose considerable cosmetic importance was well-known as long ago as the days of Cleopatra, who turned the magical desert oasis into her own personal health spa.

ABOUT THE DEAD SEA

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEAD SEA

The Dead Sea is also called salt sea due to its extremely high contents of salt and minerals, it is one of the most saline lakes and the lowest body of water in the world 410 meters ( about 1300 feet) below sea level.
It is fed mainly by River Jordan in the north and by perennial springs & streams from the east and west. Having no outlet, the Dead Sea is a” Terminal Lake” which loses huge amounts of water by evaporation into the hot dry air. The low level combined with the high temperatures in that area molded the Dead Sea into becoming The Largest Natural Spa On The Planet, with high concentration of salts and minerals in a unique composition that is particularly rich in chloride salts of magnesium, potassium, sodium, calcium, bromine and various others.

WHY IS THE DEAD SEA SO SALTY!

Anyway, back to the information on the Dead Sea. We talked about how the surface of the Sea got down so low in elevation, but why is it so salty All roads lead to the Sea when it comes to the rivers in the area. The Dead Sea is continually fed water from the rivers and streams coming down off the mountains that surround it. But the kicker is this....no rivers drain out of the Dead Sea. The only way water gets out of the Sea is through evaporation. And does it evaporate! This part of the world get plenty hot. When the water evaporates, it leaves behind all the dissolved minerals in the Sea, just making it saltier. In fact, it's through the dual action of; 1) continuing evaporation and 2)minerals salts carried into the Sea from the local rivers, that makes the sea so salty. The fact that the water doesn't escape the sea just traps the salts within its shores. There's nothing living in the Dead Sea because it got so salty, so quickly, that evolution has not had a chance to produce any creatures that could adapt to such brutal conditions. BUT…Algae was found existing in it. You can read all about it on this site as well.

Leaching of minerals from the geological strata also contributes to the Dead Sea brine and to a number of thermal mineral springs along its shores. In addition, alluvial deposits form the much valued Dead Sea mineral mud, also known as Dead Sea therapeutic black mud.

The uniqueness of the Dead Sea has been known for centuries. This is the only place in the world with this particular combination of exclusive spa benefits: peculiar sun radiation and climatic conditions, enriched oxygen atmosphere, mineral-rich salt sea, thermal mineral springs, and mineral-rich mud.

The composition of the Dead Sea is unique. It contains higher levels of magnesium, sodium, potassium, bromides, sulphates and other minerals than all other bodies of salt water in the world, including the oceans.

THE DEAD SEA CLIMATIC FACTORS.

EXTRAORDINARY AIR.

Located 400 meters below sea level:

  • The Dead Sea area has the world’s highest terrestrial barometric pressure resulting in 3.3%-4.8% (maximum in winter and minimum in summer) higher oxygen density than the air at sea level.
  • The Dead Sea being low enough and far enough from industrial locations, has kept the air clean and unpolluted. Oxygen is heavier than air molecules and thus the Dead Sea has “The Highest OXYGEN Concentration On The Planet”.
  • Also the atmosphere contains a unique UV filter that allows visitors to soak up therapeutic sunlight without the risk of burning.
  • All the above factors working together have made the Dead Sea what it is today . “The World’s Largest Naturally Occurring Therapeutic Location On The Planet”.

Sulphur which constitutes about 0.06% of the crust of our planet and which is abundant in the Dead Sea, has been recognized for thousands of years by most civilizations for its therapeutic qualities. Three thousand years ago, the Egyptians used it in the production of cosmetic materials. The ancient Greeks and Romans used sulphur for healing dermatological problems and established the first Spas around warm Sulphur springs, in which people with arthritis, rheumatism and other diseases sought relief from their discomforts. Many such Spas exists today, and Sulphur is used in the treatment of various skin disorders, such as psoriasis, for its oil- and toxin absorbing qualities, and is considered effective in the treatment of oily skin, including seborrhea.

Sulphur influences the enzyme metabolism in the skin, stimulates hyaluronidase activity, inhibits fibroblast proliferation and modulates inflammation.

DEAD SEA MUD.

There is a reason why so many people flock to the Dead Sea every ‎year, and here are just a few of them:‎

  • Improves blood circulation and natural skin generation.‎
  • Fine mud grains, cleanse the skin and remove any dirt particles, ‎impurities and toxins.‎

Dead Sea mud has many amazing health properties, and in addition to the ones listed above also helps treat and relieve some other ailments. These ailments include arthritis, muscle stiffness and aches, rheumatism, joint inflammation and even itchy dry skin. As the Dead Sea evaporates year after year (it's not connected to any other body of water), the salt and minerals which are already present in high amounts get absorbed into the mud at the bottom of the sea. This mud is then extracted and packaged, with all the impurities removed. The minerals which are present in the mud are all natural minerals which your skin needs every day. By using Dead Sea mud, or a mud mask, you are basically feeding your skin these essential minerals.

Another very powerful effect of using Dead Sea mud is the fact that as ‎it dries, it pulls out any toxins that may be present in your skin cells ‎from your everyday diet. This leaves the skin
